What to expect at Southend-on-Sea County and Family Court

Parking

Tylers House has no client parking. The Farringdon multi-storey (Chichester Road, SS1 2JU) and Warrior Square NCP are both within 5 minutes on foot. Street parking on Tylers Avenue is time-restricted.

Getting there

Southend Central station is 3 minutes on foot; direct trains from Fenchurch Street. Southend Victoria (Liverpool Street line) is a 10 minute walk. Most local bus routes stop on the High Street.

Security

Standard court security screening. Aim to arrive 30 minutes early, particularly on Mondays when lists are heaviest. Phones stay with you but must be switched to silent in court.

Facilities

The building is compact so waiting areas fill quickly, ask about a separate waiting room if you have safety concerns. There is no cafe on site; several are within 2 minutes on Southend High Street.

Courtroom etiquette

Business dress is expected. Bow your head slightly when entering and leaving the courtroom. Address a District Judge as 'Judge'. Only one person speaks at a time, if you are represented, your solicitor or barrister will speak for you.
